Liverpool’s Wine Scene: Scratching the Surface of the City’s Best Spots

If you had to guess where the UK’s best wine experiences could be found, your mind might jump straight to London’s five-star hotels, or down to the vineyards of Kent and Cornwall.

But Liverpool?

We’d say absolutely yes. In fact, Liverpool quietly boasts some of the most exciting wine spots in the country – from tucked-away Italian wine bars to some of the UK’s leading natural wine hangouts, plus characterful restaurants where wine is truly part of the story, not an afterthought.

Since launching Liverpool Wine Tours in 2024, we’ve had a front-row seat as the city’s wine scene has unfolded into something genuinely special.

The City Behind the Glass

Liverpool has always known how to do nightlife. From the iconic music venues to the independent bars and late-night haunts, the city has long attracted people who like to go out, stay out, and enjoy themselves in style.

The arrival of big names like The Ivy has only confirmed what locals already knew: there’s a growing audience here who want quality – thoughtful wine lists, great service and a night that feels just that bit more memorable.

Our Liverpool Wine Tours were born out of that shift. We wanted to create an experience that feels like being welcomed into the city’s inner circle – visiting places you might never stumble across on your own, guided by people who genuinely love the stories behind every glass.

More Than “Just” a Wine Tour

Alongside our food tours, the Liverpool Wine Tour has taken on its own personality.

Where the food tours are about showing off Liverpool’s independent food heroes, our wine experience leans into something slightly different:

  • Carefully curated wines (with a mix of familiar favourites and new discoveries)
  • The stories behind the bottles, the people and the venues
  • How food and wine pair together – and why it matters

It’s been brilliant watching guests relax into the afternoon, trying something new, and leaving with fresh favourites they didn’t know existed at the start of the day.

One recent guest summed it up perfectly:

Fabulous afternoon on the Liverpool Wine Tour. Mikey was brilliant and so knowledgeable. He took us to some great venues that we never knew existed. A good balance of food to soak up all the different wines we tried… Will definitely be trying a food tour next.

Locals, Visitors – and “I Didn’t Know This Was Here”

On most tours we’ll have a mix of locals, visitors from across the UK, and international guests who’ve added Liverpool to their city-break list.

Some of our favourite feedback comes from people who live just down the road:

“I didn’t even know this place was here.”

That’s when we know we’re doing our job properly. The phrase “hidden gem” gets overused these days, but Liverpool wears it well. The venues we visit don’t need viral TikToks or huge ad campaigns – they just quietly get on with being excellent.

Behind the bar you’ll usually find teams who:

  • Care deeply about what they pour
  • Know their producers and regions inside-out
  • Love introducing guests to wines they might not pick for themselves

Add in great small plates or sharing boards and you’ve basically got the perfect afternoon.

Scratching the Surface

The truth is, even with our carefully curated route, we’re still only scratching the surface of Liverpool’s wine potential. New venues open, existing ones evolve, and wine lists change with the seasons.

That’s part of the fun. It means no two visits to Liverpool ever have to feel the same – and no two Liverpool Wine Tours are identical either.

What stays consistent is our aim:

  • Good food
  • Good wine
  • Good company.

If you’d like to discover the city’s wine scene for yourself – whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or just curious to try something new – our Liverpool Wine Tour is a great place to start.
