Did you know Liverpool is now one of Europe’s hottest filming destinations? In fact, it’s officially the third most filmed city in Europe, just behind London and Berlin. With its incredible mix of stunning architecture, vibrant streets, and buzzing culture, it’s no wonder directors from across the world are choosing Liverpool as their backdrop.

The Go-To City for TV & Film

Earlier this year we were glued to the BBC’s This City is Ours, and what made it even more thrilling was seeing some of Liverpool’s best-loved foodie venues — Pilgrim, Gaucho, Duke Street Market, and Panoramic 34 — feature on the show. For us, it’s always a pinch-me moment when the very venues we step into suddenly pop up on the small screen.

But that’s not all. Liverpool has been transformed time and again for the big screen and primetime drama. Here are just a few productions you might recognise that were shot in and around the city centre:

  • The Batman (yes, Gotham City was right here in Liverpool!)
  • The Crown
  • The Responder
  • Yesterday
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Peaky Blinders

With such versatility, Liverpool can be gritty, glamorous, historic, or futuristic — all within a short walk.

Food & Drink Venues as Film Stars

Liverpool’s thriving food and drink scene doesn’t just satisfy locals and visitors — it also sets the stage for television and film. From elegant rooftop dining spots with sweeping views to bustling street food markets alive with atmosphere, the city’s venues make brilliant filming locations. They capture the essence of Liverpool: stylish, diverse, and full of character.

And here’s a little spoiler alert… one of those venues you’ve seen recently on TV is also a regular feature on our tours.

Be Part of the Story

At Walking Food Tours UK, we love showcasing Liverpool in all its glory. Whether you’re following in the footsteps of Batman, imagining yourself in a scene from The Crown, or just pretending to be Ricardo Guzman (careful crossing the road though…), you’ll see first-hand why the city is such a favourite with directors—and foodies.

We’re buzzing with some exciting news to share very soon, but in the meantime, why not join one of our Liverpool food tours? You never know, you might just eat and drink in the very same spot you’ll later see on TV.

Because in Liverpool, the stars aren’t just on the screen — hey’re on the plate too.
