On Friday, Gareth welcomed four guests to the Croeso to Wrexham Food Experience — our signature Wrexham food tour — and what a day it turned out to be!
Our guests had travelled from Wilmslow and New Jersey (via London), both couples eager to experience Wrexham’s unique blend of culture, cuisine, and community spirit.
There’s no doubt that the hit documentary Welcome to Wrexham and the incredible success of Wrexham AFC have put the city firmly on the global map. These days, it’s perfectly normal to spot visitors from all over the world wandering the streets, popping into The Turf Pub, or making their way to The Racecourse Ground — a modern-day football pilgrimage in many ways. Our Wrexham food tour is often the missing piece that helps them join the dots between the club, the people and the place.
A Tale of Two Perspectives
Our guests from New Jersey had well and truly caught the Wrexham bug. Having fallen in love with the club from across the Atlantic, they planned their UK visit to include a full day in Wrexham, with a few extra days in London sandwiched in between.
Meanwhile, our Wilmslow guests were more curious — intrigued to see if all the hype around Wrexham was truly justified. Spoiler alert: by the end of the tour, they were completely won over and already planning who they could bring back with them next time.
A Foodie Journey Through Wrexham
Over the course of the experience, guests enjoyed award-winning pies, fabulous savoury dishes across two venues (including the impressive local college restaurant), a pint of Wrexham Lager (of course!), sweet treats from a new baker in town, and some delicious local wines.
As always, Gareth brought Wrexham’s story to life — from its market and mining roots and proud history to its exciting present and ambitious future. Along the way, he showcased some of the city’s most fascinating cultural and historical landmarks, helping guests see how food, football and community all fit together on this Wrexham food tour.
More Than a Meal — A Memory
By the end of the tour, the group left with full stomachs, happy smiles, and a new appreciation for this warm and welcoming Welsh city. For some, the experience confirmed everything they’d heard about Wrexham’s renaissance. For others, it completely changed their perception — in the best possible way.
Whether you’re a long-time supporter of Wrexham AFC, a foodie explorer, or simply curious about this city that’s capturing hearts worldwide, the Croeso to Wrexham Food Experience is the perfect way to discover it all.
